Cuisine: Indian
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup almonds
  2. 4 cups water
  3. 1/2 cup sugar
  4. 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  5. 1 tablespoon rose water
  6. Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by soaking the almonds in 4 cups of water for at least 6 hours or overnight. This will soften the almonds and make them easier to blend.
  2. After soaking, drain the almonds and rinse them under cold water to remove any residue. This step is essential for achieving a clean flavor in your sharbat.
  3. Transfer the soaked almonds to a blender. Add 1 cup of fresh water to the blender along with the drained almonds. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure all almonds are blended evenly.
  4. Once you have a smooth almond paste, add the remaining 3 cups of water to the blender. Blend again until well combined. This will create a milky almond mixture.
  5. Strain the almond mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to press down on the mixture to extract as much liquid as possible, discarding the almond pulp.
  6. To the strained almond milk, add 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder, and 1 tablespoon of rose water. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  7. Taste the sharbat and adjust the sweetness or flavoring according to your preference. You can add more sugar or cardamom if desired.
  8. Chill the almond sharbat in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will enhance the flavors and make it refreshing.
  9. When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled almond sharbat over the ice. Garnish with a sprinkle of additional cardamom powder or a few rose petals for a decorative touch.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing Sharbat Badam!

Tips

  1. • Soak almonds overnight for the creamiest texture possible • Use fresh, high-quality almonds for the best flavor • Strain the mixture thoroughly to ensure a smooth, silky consistency • Adjust sweetness to your personal preference • Chill the sharbat well before serving for maximum refreshment • Experiment with garnishes like rose petals or crushed pistachios • For an extra luxurious touch, use filtered or mineral water • If you prefer a thicker consistency, reduce the water slightly • Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days
