Total Time: 10 mins
Cuisine: Mexican
Serves: 2 cups

Ingredients

  1. 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  2. 1 onion, finely chopped
  3. 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  4. 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  5. 1 lime, juiced
  6. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash all fresh produce thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Carefully core and dice the ripe tomatoes into small, uniform pieces, about 1/4 inch in size. Place diced tomatoes in a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Peel the onion and finely chop it into small, consistent pieces. Add the chopped onion to the bowl with tomatoes.
  4. Cut the jalapeño pepper in half lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds and white membrane to reduce heat if desired. Mince the jalapeño into very small pieces.
  5. Add the minced jalapeño to the tomato and onion mixture.
  6. Rinse fresh cilantro and pat dry with paper towels. Chop the cilantro leaves finely and add to the bowl.
  7. Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice directly into the salsa mixture, being careful to catch any seeds.
  8. Sprinkle salt to taste, starting with 1/4 teaspoon and adjusting as needed.
  9. Gently mix all ingredients together, ensuring even distribution of flavors.
  10. For best results, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld together before serving.

Tips

  1. Choose ripe, firm tomatoes for the best flavor and texture. Roma or vine-ripened tomatoes work exceptionally well.
  2. For a milder salsa, remove all seeds and white membranes from the jalapeño. For extra heat, keep some seeds.
  3. Let the salsa rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend and intensify.
  4. Use fresh cilantro for the brightest, most authentic taste.
  5. Adjust salt gradually and taste as you go to achieve the perfect seasoning.
  6. For a smoother salsa, you can pulse the ingredients briefly in a food processor, but be careful not to over-blend.
  7. This salsa is best consumed within 2-3 days and should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
